The client owned a hobby shop in San Francisco which featured miniature doll houses of different architectural styles. The owner wanted to create a Victorian house on a site that was in Pacifica which had views of the Pacific Ocean as well as a back yard facing a natural preserve. Then the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake occurred and their ability to interview architects were curtailed. However, when they located our office, previously in a late 1880′s Stickley house with the exterior preserved and interiors remodeled, their decision was to hire us. Other architects were trying to dissuade them from creating a Victorian house, whereas we listened and provided services that would serve their needs and not necessarily ours.
